The Risen Realm
I’ve been having a bit of a nightmare recently. I’m coming to the age where many of my friends are getting engaged – urgh – or married – urgh – or having children – unthinkable. And this means a round robin of parties, church ceremonies and plenty of awkward questions about my own relationship status.
My circle of friends is actually quite small and, with many of them beginning to settle down, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to meet potential boyfriends. It’s not a massive issue in my life right now (I’m only 23!) but it saves having the same conversation regarding my singleness at every gathering.
Meeting people at work can also be quite challenging as my business is intrinsically social, but I’m always running around like a headless chicken preparing other peoples’ events – and a sweaty, beetroot head is NOT a good look.
Recently I’ve been inclined to look on dating websites such as match.com and eHarmony in the hope of hooking up with someone who shares the same interests as me and maybe, just maybe, is not obsessed with settling down and having an army of kids!
Also, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been trawling the social networking sites, Badoo in particular, in the search for a humorous guy to drag along to yet another wedding. It’s been a successful adventure so far and I’ve had a lot of fun in the process.
It relieves me of the annoying ‘where’s your date?’ interrogation that seems to follow me anywhere I go recently – but explaining my new +1 and I met online is a real conversation starter!
I’d recommend the above methods to anyone. You’re under no obligation to go any further than being nosey and checking out a profile that tickles your fancy. But if you do decide to take it to the next level, it really couldn’t be easier.
And who knows, maybe one day it’ll help me settle down!
