"A new type of battery [MSNBC] based on the radioactive decay of nuclear material is 10 times more powerful than similar prototypes and should last a decade or more without a charge, scientists announced this week."
If they're able to perfect this nuclear battery, the impact of it would be monumental. Think... you will never need to recharge your iPod! In all seriousness, the possibilities really open up with a such a great source of power.
And if you're wondering about the safety factor, just know that the substance they're using is currently already used in "exit" signs.
"Tritium emits only low-energy particles 'that can be shielded by very thin materials, such as a sheet of paper,' said Gadeken of BetaBatt. 'The hermetically-sealed, metallic BetaBattery cases will encapsulate the entire radioactive energy source, just like a normal battery contains its chemical source so it cannot escape.'" |
The online MMORPG, MapleStory, has just been officially released! It has been in Beta Version for quite some time, showing users what the future had to show. And for MapleStory, the future is now.
Below is the official description for the game.
| QUOTE | At Maple World, hunting and engaging in battles are not the only options you'll have. You can explore a totally new and unknown world you have never been to, put on beautiful clothes and gorgeous accessories, and even attract other users in the process. You may begin the journey to explore the world of unknown alone, but you may come out on the other end with numerous new friends through hunting and chatting. If you're tired of hunting and competition, how about playing minigames with a friend for a change? You'll become a brave adventurer protecting the Maple World, and if you're exhausted from all the intense battles and competition, you may one day build your own house at a quiet rural village, enjoying the life of a recluse who welcomes visitors? ? At Maple Island, you will learn from the NPC's simple hunting skills and basic control of the game to help you ease into the game. Then, you'll board the ship that heads to Victoria Island, and that's where your journey REALLY begins. From Lith Harbor that welcomes you from a long journey from Maple Island, you'll run into such fascinating towns as Henesys - the village of bowmen with comfy mushroom-shaped houses gathered together; Ellinia - the village of magicians with mysterious spells embedded between tall trees; Perion - the village of warriors with the fighting spirit typical of the Indians living in highlands; and Kerning City - the village of thieves that reminds you of the back alleys of dark cities.
You'll be playing the game at Victoria Island where all these diverse and unique towns and fields coexist.
Here, you are going to be just a regular gamer hunting down monsters and protecting yourself in the process. You'll be given 4 paths to choose from, 4 that will define your life in MapleStory: Warrior, Bowman, Thief, and Magician. Through leveling up and meeting some requirements, you'll be able to make job advancements and nurture your character in your own, unique way. |

NationStates is a fun online game that allows you to develop a nation, and make decisions that will affect the "Economy", "Civil Rights", and "Political Freedoms" of you nation, as well as it's type. If you choose, it can also be a RolePlaying game, with small communities of Nations being formed. Check it out at NationStates.net. Personally, I would love to see the president play this game.
Until then, i'll add member's nations here. Eiii: Muabra |

Seems Google is testing some sort of personalization, kind of like "My Yahoo". I don't have much details yet, but it seems you can customize what appears on your front page (currently at google.com/ig, but probably eventually on front page).
Try it out, you can at this point preview your Gmail account, view stock market info, NY Times, BBC News, Slashdot, Wired News, Weather, Google News, Movie info, driving directions, and a quote and word of the day. |

| QUOTE | There has been a small outbreak of ?zombism? in a small town near the border of Laos in North-Eastern Cambodia
The culprit was discovered to be mosquitoes native to that region carrying a new strain of Malaria which thus far has a 100 percent mortality rating killing victims in fewer than 2 days.
After death, this virus is able to restart the heart of it?s victim for up to two hours after the initial demise of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during ?resurrection.?
General Ary Serey had this to say, "We have obtained samples of this new virus and plan to learn how it starts the heart and other major organs of the deceased. We intend to use this to increase the quality of life for all."

This is a fake, in case you're wondering. The REAL article with the same ID is at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4483241.stm, hence all the sidebar info about Syria and Lebanon. |
Scientists have found a way to turn waste water into hydrogen! It's electronicly assised, but needs less energy than a cell phone. This produces more hydrogen than fermentation. It may also help us harness hydrogen power. Isnt science great

I guess I oughta keep making gaming ramblings until Sk89q is convinced to make a gaming side section.
The pc gaming world is in a ditch right now. Why? All the old classics game out at the same time in the greatest smackdown of gaming ever last winter. Yeah. You know what I'm talking about. Halo 2, Doom 3, GTA: SA, even a redux of Sid Meir's Pirates! for Xbox. Sure, there's Jade Empire, but that's pretty much it. All the big companies are starting over with a fresh new, bright and shiny plate. Or a big, stinking, smelly trencher that has to be cleaned out since last night's party. Lets check out what looks promising.
1. "Huxley" by Webzen MMOFPS Enter "Huxley". Named after the novel "Brave New World", it's an interesting persistant FPS world, with incredilous eye candy courtesy of the Unreal III engine, and new gameplay features that may kickstart the still young and barely populated(Planeside, and that's pretty much it) genre. http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1105/H...y-Interview/p1/
2. "Spore" by Will Wright Sim/RTS/Adventure/Action/Pac Man Will Wright, most famous for his "Sims" series, is making a new game, titled "Spore". Basically the most ambitious game ever even concieved(Project Ego? HAH! Thou laughs at what doth thine created), you start out as a single celled organisim(pac-man), grow to be a hunter gatherer(Caveman 3d), start a village(Populous), start making cities(Sim City), conquer your planet(Rise of Nations), and then set off to take claim of the universe(StarCraft). Are you impressed yet? http://www.gamespy.com/articles/595/595975p2.html
3. "All Points Bulletin" by WebZen Its something, I guess. Very obscure at this point, it's being developed by the South Korean geniuses that made MU(and are also working on Huxley) and headed by the creator of GTA. It's going to be massively multiplayer and feature gangs fighting cops. It uses the Unreal III engine too. http://www.pcvsconsole.com/news.php?nid=2952
